Portfolio - July 2020

I recently blogged about Our Baby Journey so far, do take a look if it is something that interests you.

Unfortunately, our portfolio has fallen below the $500k milestone after just 1 month. It decreased by -3.02% to $487,135 - $8,623.00 of capital withdrawal and $6,554.95 of capital loss. This includes $35,294 of leverage/debt (gearing ~7.8%).

If you prefer to look at numbers, this is the raw data used to generate the above bar graph. These numbers are as of the last day of the month.

"Cash Flow" is the amount of money being injected/withdrawn from the portfolio (buying stocks = +ve cash flow while selling stocks and collecting dividends = -ve cash flow)

SOLD
- Sheng Siong (18,000 units) @ $1.64

We decided to sell all our Sheng Siong shares (18,000 units) at $1.64 today and it has been our top/best investment after all these years.

After holding for about 1358 days (~3.7 years) with an average price of $0.907, we have almost doubled our capital with an absolute return of 94.54% and an annualized return of 19.58%. You can read more about it here - Bye Sheng Siong! Hi SATS!

BOUGHT
- SATS (4,000 units) @ $2.84
- STI ETF (1,000 + 1,000 units) @ $2.65 and $2.58
- IWDA (11 units) @ US$62.38

We bought SATS as we see it as an opportunity to accumulate a good business when it is in crisis/undervalued. It should recover eventually, just not in the near future. We also bought more STI ETF to average down our previous investment.

I have "force" myself to buy $1,000 SGD worth of IWDA. We have decided to set some rules for the monthly IWDA investment:
- Current average price: $57.357
- If the market price is above our average price, buy $1,000
- If the market price is below our average price, buy $2,000
- Must buy by last trading day of the month

As an introduction, IWDA (iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF) is an accumulating (does not distribute dividends) world ETF managed passively by iShares. This has multiple purposes:
1. Capital Growth - Determine if simply buying a diversified world ETF will outperform StashAway/Endowus
2. Leverage Collateral - It has 70% LTV which will increase eventually increase our ability to borrow more or prevent a margin call

Anyway, IWDA is highly recommended by ShinyThings from HWZ. You can refer to this summarized version here.

On a side note, we can invest in such a small amount because there's no minimum commission for SCB priority customers which makes our investment very cost-effective.

I have also decided to increase my SRS contribution to $1,400 per month with the intention of maxing it by year-end.

Our Monthly DCA for July - $4,550
$1,000 Cash - StashAway Risk Index 22%
$800  KPO's SRS - StashAway Risk Index 36%
$250 CZM's SRS - StashAway Risk Index 14%
$800 KPO's SRS - Endowus Loss Tolerance -60%
$1,000 Cash - Syfe REIT+ (100% REIT)
$700 Cash - Syfe Equity100 (100% Equities)

Dividends
The total dividends collected this month is $1,126.99. The breakdown is as follows:

Company PayDate Shares Total
SSB Jul 2018 1-Jul-20 500 $5.47
Sheng Siong Group Ltd 7-Jul-20 18,000 $324.00

Mapletree Industrial Trust - Units 28-Jul-20 81.33 $2.26
China Construction Bank Corp. - Class H 30-Jul-20 5,000  HK$1,573.83

Total dividends collected for 2020: $9,714.86
Average dividends per month for 2020: $1,387.83

  1. Sorry, I didn't understand your point on " Leverage Collateral - It has 70% LTV which will increase eventually increase our ability to borrow more or prevent a margin call".

Did u organise Leverage with SCB separately to buy this ? What is the collateral ?

    1. Hi TheValueFund,

The collateral are the shares I owned. In this case, IWDA is the collateral for me to borrow from SCB to invest further. So I buy $1000 SGD worth of IWDA, pledge to SCB at 70% LTV in order to borrow $700 SGD from SCB.

    3. Hahaha. FYI, DBS has something similar too, not sure about the fees/interest though - https://www.dbs.com.sg/personal/loans/secured-financing/share-financing

I would PM you if my SCB RM never change. The previous one was pretty good but he left the bank about a month ago. Unfortunately, the current one a bit blur also. I gave instructions to move my shares around still haven do... I had 6 different RMs assigned to me over the years, only 2 is good >.<"
