Our perception towards money/time has certainly changed with a baby. Nowadays, we are more willing to spend money to make our lives easier/save some time. Some examples - we recently bought a Samsung Heatpump Dryer for about $1.5k and it was such a time saver. After washing, just dump everything into the dryer and let it run/spin dry. Heatpump dryer is much more expensive than the conventional dryer but it is a lot more energy-efficient. You can read up about the different types of dryers here. We have also decided to order tingkat for both lunch and dinner so we no longer have to spend time deciding what to cook/order on Grab/Foodpanda. Interestingly, tingkat is actually cheaper than getting food delivery. Definitely worth checking out.
Anyway, our portfolio had a great start for 2021 as it reaches a new high and broke the next milestone - $700k! It increased by 6.46% to $712,898 - $34,290.09 of capital injection and $8,978.69 of capital gain. This includes $89,039 of leverage/debt (gearing ~14.27%).

hey KPO,recently had the same sentiments too! i value time saved from doing chores. bought a dishwasher and a roborock... man, i dont why i didnt get it earlier! (more time for netflix! haha)
ReplyDeletei just had the SCB wealth lending approved. my leverage is alot lesser than yours, as i only put in a smaller colletoral. still thinking how to deploy them. my first idea is to slowly draw down and DCA into syfe reit. untill it hits the 20k mark, for lesser comms. if syfereit+ is ~5+%, the nett gain should be 3+%. not astounding, but not terrible either. any thoughts on this?
Hi foolish chameleon,
DeleteHahaha. We also have a (mini/portable) dishwasher and a roborock. Should have gotten the big built in dishwasher when we first got our house (one of our regrets!).
Nice. Slowly build lor. Personally, I prefer to just buy the underlying because you will be adding another layer of fees on top of the interest to SCB. In addition, when I buy the underlying from SCB, I can immediately pledge them back as collateral at 70% LTV to further increase the safety margin to prevent the margin call.
Of course, Syfe is relatively safer/more diversified and you don't need to manage/monitor so much. The decision is yours :)
i bought the smallish countertop eletrolux. coz that was the only decent smaller sized ones avail. this was after thought, after reno as well. yes! i know right! the big sized one, where can dump all the oily pots and stuff.. the other regret, is we should have bought dishwasher safe utensilz and crockery!
Deleteah, i see. but pledging the collatoral, meansm, cannot sell lo. i mean, can. but not as direct as keying in by yourself, if i not wrong, i think there is an additional step or something, i recall the RM mentioned, and abit more ma fan right...
exactly, i am trying to steer away from monitoring due to time constrain.
do you know if is there a syfeReit eqv that can be bought in the sqx market?
DeleteYes, when pledging it, cannot sell. Need to unpledged and move it out of lien account before you can sell. That's going to take a few days and price would have moved. So that's the trade-off.
DeleteAn equivalent would be one of those REITs ETF. There are 3 of such ETFs:
NikkoAM-Straits Trading Asia Ex-Japan REIT ETF
Phillip SGX APAC Dividend Leaders REIT ETF
Lion-Phillip S-REIT ETF
I've also sold my First REIT & RMG (BSL) to ate the loss, redeploy to other better performing equities
ReplyDeleteHi ant,
DeleteYes, it happens. Hopefully we will earn/gain back what we lost from wherever we redeploy to!
Thinking of swapping IWDA to VRWA, any opinions? no need to buy eimi / lesser to rebalance and barriers to buying, market timing
ReplyDeleteHi JD,
DeleteMy opinion is either is fine and they will perform well in the long term. Instead of swapping, I will recommend that you simply stop buying IWDA and start buying VRWA to avoid additional commission/fees.
My opinion/answer might be too simple and you might want to refer to Kyith's article here - https://investmentmoats.com/passive-investing-2/iwda-versus-vwra-significant-performance-differences/
