Portfolio Update - August 2017

Our portfolio grew by 3.20% to $266,765 - $5,182.17 of capital injection and around $3,095.83 of capital growth!

BOUGHT
- Sheng Siong (2,000 units) @ $0.935
- Raffles Medical (6,000 units) @ $1.10

Amazon first launched its services in Singapore last month and immediately, we saw weakness in Sheng Siong price and decided to accumulate more. We surveyed both our parents and they said "online grocery not fresh". lol. This article by Singapore Business Review - Why Sheng Siong can shrug off threats from Amazon states that "Singapore's online grocery retail market remains small at less than 2% or $96m of modern grocery retail sales of $6b".

I did a review on our 3 worst performing stocks last month:
- Bleeding Stocks - QAF [Part 1]
- Bleeding Stocks - Raffles Medical [Part 2]
- Bleeding Stocks - Ezion [Part 3]

During the review, Raffles Medical fundamentals were still intact and it seems to be undervalued as compared to its peers. So we went ahead to accumulate more/scoop the bottom but it looks like a falling knife now >.< Regardless, life goes on :)

The total dividends collected this month is $1,274.63. The breakdown is as follows:

Company Symbol ExDate Shares Total
QAF Ltd Q01 28-Aug-17 3,000 $30.00
Croesus Retail Trust S6NU 24-Aug-17 6,801 $276.12

Singapore Post Ltd S08 16-Aug-17 4,000 $35.00
Far East Hospitality Trust Q5T 11-Aug-17 10,156 $98.51

StashAway
Capital: $1,000
Current: $1,005.98 (0.60%)

Initially, I scheduled $500 to be transferred to StashAway on the 1st of every month. However, when the monthly statement came last month, it did not capture the transaction made on the 1st. Hence, I shifted the transfer to the 25th of every month. I am currently waiting for the monthly statement (should be this week) and I will publish another article to give you guys more insight into it. Depending on what is shown/captured in the monthly statement, if we are comfortable with it, we might increase our monthly contribution.

I have also written 3 other articles on StashAway last month:

Health - KPO Needs to Lose Weight
I have not been very strict with the low carbs diet. When I told my mum not to cook rice/noodle for me going forward, she scolded me and said that I am being unhealthy. The next morning, she heated up a Bak Chang (粽子) for my breakfast and today she cooked fried noodle. lol. I am not complaining because I know I am very fortunate to have my mum take care of everything. Haha.

On the bright side, I have been drinking Vitasoy/Mr Bean soy milk without sugar for lunch for the past few days. Not too bad but I do get hungry much earlier. My colleagues are asking if I am depressed and if my diet is a result of CZM leaving/changing job (we used to work in the same company). lol.

    2. Hi KPO,

Once upon a time when I'm weighing myself day in and day out. I've learnt something. My weight fluctuates throughout the day. I may be a couple of grams lighter just after I leave the toilet :p

  2. Old people are like that. They think the world of rice.
Sugar and carb is the root of all evil. That's why low carb diet can work.

Vitasoy/Mr Bean soy milk are loaded with cash. Same with all drinks except plain water. Don't believe me, when you go shopping, look at the sugar content. Only thing sugar free is plain water/own brewed tea. Even your 3in1 is also loaded with sugar.

Carbs is also sugar. This mean your mee, keuy tiow , bread, biscuits, pizza bread, burger bread, cake is actually sugar. :p

Kyeith from Investmentmoats have a few good article about low carb diet.

    1. Hi JohnRed,

"Vitasoy/Mr Bean soy milk are loaded with " CASH?! I like! Haha. Are you suggesting that I drink water for lunch only? I dun think my stomach can take it. Wouldn't want it growling during meetings. Hahahaha. I know that but it is really hard to avoid them totally hence the "low" carbs diet and not "no" carbs diet.

Yeah, I read that. It is too much work to prepare one week worth of food >.<

    2. Ooops. Haha... Yes. Water. You can google sugar and addiction. I was like you too. Can't give up my 3in1 and my Milo.

Decide to do a test for 1 month. Give up anything with sugar, surprisingly when I come back to them, my tongue literally scream too sweat.

So how to prevent your stomach from growling?
      - Swap white rice for red/brown rice (bring from your home - not nice but the same portion of red/brown rice = min 2x white rice (you need min 2x of white rice to fill fuller vs the other 2 type of rice). You can swap brown/red rice with sweet potato.
      - Increase your helping of veges. 2-3x over your normal amount
      - Bring two hard boil eggs with you (don't peel the shell until you want to eat them so that they can last the day without going bad)
      - Bring small glass bottle (around 50ml enough) of either EVO Olive oil/Virgin Coconut oil and drizzle 1-2 tbsp over your food.
      - Go to those bakery supplies shop and get (1kg) of unsalted/unroasted almonds/walnuts and pack a fistful into your bag. When you are walking back, you can snack on them.

Then drink own brewed japanese green tea where ever you can (at home). You can do a cold brew (brew it by leaving it in the fridge overnight without using hot water)

These are what I do. The trick is protein and fat will be the one filling you up. I can guaranteed that they will fill you up.

    1. Hi Jacky,

I am KPO. I believe you came over from FB. The FB account was created for CZM to manage but she's just too busy. Anyway, I am using https://stocks.cafe/ to track my investment. I believe if you have an account and follow me there, you will be notified of the transactions I am making. However, I would not recommend that you make your investment based on mine. Make sure that you always do your own research.

Alternatively, you can stay tuned to my monthly portfolio update :)
